Ambassadors

Several years ago while attending a ladies’ Bible study, our teacher, Frances Knight, passed out little cards with our names that stated:

The Kingdom of Heaven
Sends its
Official Ambassador
Bonnie Edenfield
On a Temporary Assignment to earth

Since I am a visual person, it made a dramatic impact on my life as I realized the significance of my being an ambassador for God’s Kingdom.  God says he has a purpose for my life, so that means He had an assignment in mind even before I was born.
According to the dictionary, an ambassador is an accredited diplomat who is sent as an official representative of his or her country.  These words grabbed my attention.

Diplomat – one who can deal with people in a sensitive and effective way.
Official – an authority figure who has the approval of a body or organization to speak on their behalf.
Representative – a person chosen to speak on behalf of someone.

While these assignments are extremely important to the peace and welfare of a nation, imagine how critical our duties are as a spiritual ambassador for Jesus.  When we accept Christ as our Savior and invite him to be Lord of our life, we become an ambassador for God (see II Corinthians 5:20.)  As a result, it is important to ask ourselves these questions:  As a diplomat for Christ, do I deal with others in a sensitive and respectful way?  Or, do I try to force my beliefs and opinions on them?  Do I represent Jesus in such a way that brings honor to him?
We have a choice in what kind of ambassador we will be for our Lord.  Will we be a positive influence for Him, or after being in the presence of someone, will they think, ‘I thought he/she was a Christian!  They sure don't act like it!’
My goal is to be like Jesus all the time, but my human nature frequently gets in the way.  In myself, I cannot be a good ambassador for my Lord, but with God’s help all things are possible!
