On Friday mornings, the local garbage truck clatters down our street to collect an assortment of neighborhood castaways. In a humorous way, this reminds me of what our prayer life should be.
We frequently hang onto excess garbage such as fear, anger, bitterness and selfishness in the same way that we collect material junk. These multiply and create overwhelming problems in our lives. God’s Word says, “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” I Peter 5:7 NIV. God has broad shoulders. He is neither shocked nor offended with any of our confessions. The only thing that separates us from Him is our silence.
Our own human nature dictates a desire for us to be collectors, but when we’re tempted to clutter our lives with useless spiritual refuse, we limit God's power to work in our lives. By placing these things in God’s dumpster, we can see the limitless possibilities that He has for us.
